I am looking to build a new PC for video editing, photo editing, and light gaming. I was about to go with the R9 3900x, until I saw this page from Puget Systems comparing premiere pro performance with 9th gen intel and Ryzen 3rd gen: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...adripper-2-Intel-9th-Gen-Intel-X-series-1535/

It is clear from both the graphs and the summary at the bottom that pretty much all of Intel's 9th gen CPUs do better with h.264 footage, which is the type that I will (mostly) be working with. Even though they score higher, how noticeable would the performance difference be? Specifically, I am looking at this graph here:
pic_disp.php

Is the difference of 9 points between the R9-3900x and the i7-9700k (red bars) significant in live preview performance?

Also I will be using this for photo editing but it looks like the R9-3900X tops the charts in that area 😄 : https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...adripper-2-Intel-9th-Gen-Intel-X-series-1592/

Thanks!

It's a pretty close call on many of the benchmarks, but the key to Adobe products is to have a second SSD as a scratch disk, the faster the better. I have a 9900KF, but only because I got it at an employee discount. The real key is that I have two NVMe drives -- one for the OS and one for the scratch disk on my latest build. Adobe has a lot of support information on scratch disks.
