Intel i7 Help

I am going to buy a i7 processor and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas, i was thinking about 4790.

That seems to be a very popular chip around here but also considered to be overkill unless video editing and 3d modeling. For gaming the i5 4790k is the king.

But if i get a i7 would i not have more time before the next upgrade which would probably work out cheaper and i may also be doing some video editing.

I am probably not the best one in here to answer your question. Let's see what someone else has to say. My assumption would be to go for it with a good z97 board.

If you can wait til August, the Skylake is coming out. It does not have the on board voltage regulator that accomplished nothing other than wasting power and heating things up. Also it should be much faster.
