Hi all,

I recently purchased an intel i7-7700k processor which I swapped out for my i5 6600k.

I updated the BIOS and had all the drivers installed for hardware and yet when I booted it up it keeps trying to repair and BOSD

So I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and all other drivers on my i5 6600k and then put the i7 back in again. And again I got BSOD

I have also tried switching the ram in every combination including only having one stick in a slot.

Full PC specs

CPU- i7-7700k
GPU- MSI Nvidia GTX 970
MOBO- MSI Z170a Gaming Pro
RAM- Corsair vengeance LPX ddr4 2400mhz 2x8gb
PSU - Corsair 650w vs
OS - Windows 10 Education
Storage- Seagate 1TB hard drive
Cooler- seidon 120v v2k

Is there possibly some incompatibility of my hardware? I've built PC's before and never come across this! So any help would be appreciated!

Many thanks,
EJP.

Hi there,

I attempted to do that in the first place but I would only get to the point of choosing a language before it gave me the blue screen :(

Cheers,
EJP

Did you tried resetting CMOS before doing Win install? Sounds like mobo is not aware what CPU is installed, or maybe new CPU has as issue. I hope you did full cable re-check, especially drives cables, in case something got loose during cooler install.

Thank you for replying.

I have done full cable checks each time both when I tried the i5 again as well as the i7, I want to reset the CMOS but have misplaced my jumper. Any other way of me doing it?

Cheers again,
EJP

did you update the bios cause i have the same mobo and i was reading the updates for the mobo and it says that this mobo needs to update the bios in order for the 7700k to work properly the version that the mobo needs for the 7700k is 3016
