I've been supporting AMD for the last 4 or so years, since their CPUs keep kicking Intel's butt also at a cheaper price. When I was at the tech repair shop for my computer, he says with what I do, I really should be using Intel processors. Part of his logic was Intel was more dependable with less problems, and the software is typically written more for Intel CPUs. I'm more concerned about RAW performance which I feel AMD does better at. I again do a lot of 8k video editing on Adobe Premiere Pro. I don't find AMD lacking that much in ways he suggests. Can anyone here relate to his thoughts on this and is he right I should be using Intel systems?

I'll defer to this article: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/amd-ryzen-9-7900x3d-and-7950x3d-content-creation-review/

But the tl;dr is they're both more or less equal, with one pulling ahead in one benchmark and the other pulling ahead for another. However, I'm a little less confident with AM5 after the initial showing of people's experiences. I went with Intel for my current build after using AM4 for the past two and the thing that stood out to me was it not only booted on the first try, but it took the settings without a problem. Of course this is a sample size of 1, but after building enough systems this sort of things stands out.

So this sort of shifted my view on builds. Because I don't really care about upgrading the CPU (of which I've done exactly once), platform longevity in that regard isn't a factor. Plus I find it easier to sell whole computers locally than try to put individual parts on eBay or Craiglist. So my viewpoint shifted to avoid the first cut of a new platform (in this case, AMD is on their first cut for AM5, Intel was on their 2.5ish cut for LGA1700).

That said, both companies are supposed to come out with new things, and Intel is starting a new platform, so if you're getting something this year, it might be worth looking at AMD.

Good point. I think the bugs have been worked out of AM5 at this point. I was planning on upgrading to the 9950X when it comes out next month. I currently have the 7950X, but it needs warranty as the GPU on the chip has gone on it. I was going to get the 9950X anyway.
