Hello!

I plan on buying a 1150 gaming system, but i have a question left:

Which processor of the following two is better:

- Intel i5 4460
vs
- Intel i5 4690

Is the 4690 worth the 40€ plus for the 0.5 GHz?

My other components will be:

- MSI H97 Gaming 3
- Corsair Vengeance DDR3 2400 2x8GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Thanks for every help :)

EDIT: Oh right, I wanna play League of Legends, Minecraft modpacks with shader, Heroes of the Storm, Garrys Mod, GTA V and games like that.

And for overall performance? Such as browsing, multitasking (more games opened at one time) prabably some HD video editing?

Ok, thanks

In the first version of my build, I want to spend less money on CPU and more on GPU, thats why I take an i5. And if I would want to overclock it, I would take the i7 4790K, not an i5

If I really get to the point where I want to overclock my system, I'll get a new i7 processor.

With that said, i have another last question:

If I don't overclock, is the box cooler of the i5 4460 good enough to keep it cool?

Yes the stock cooler is fine if you don't overclock. I think you should really reconsider in the 4690k tho.. Overclocking will give you a %30+ speed boost and ~20fps in gaming. For what $30 more? Thats lunch money.. and the only advantage the 4790k has is .5ghz 8 thread and 2mb of cache.. Nothing that will improve your gaming. But good luck and don't say I told you so when you have that locked multiplier :)

I have to agree. Getting an Unlocked CPU is a good choice. I asked myself same question when i got my 2500k. Now its overclocked to beastly 4.8ghz for past two years, still beating 4690k stock. If that day i got locked CPU i would be stuck at 3.3ghz.

Most definitely. The days of overclocking and destroying your CPU are pretty much over. These things overclock in 2 mins with ease and dramatically improve the performance of your PC. It only makes sense.. I think buying a locked CPU is a complete waste of money. But hey it's not my money right :)

The 4690k is still 60€ more, and if I want to overclock it, I'll need another cooler too.

Trust me brother.. Whats $100 really.. If you're like me and spend a good amount of your day on your PC then $100 to make you that much more productive and make you enjoy your PC, and games that much more go for it man. You wont regret it.

I'll see what my grandma says about it, I'll need more money 😀

Thats why i didnt wanna overclock

Its just not worth the extra cost from a value point of view though. Any 4th gen i5 wont hold back any graphics card on the market, so if your on a budget, why spend more?

You clearly are not playing CPU heavy games. My main game is Planetside 2. Its so CPU heavy and single-threaded that from my 3,3ghz stock to 4,8ghz on my 2500k brings 20fps boost.

Any MMO will make a difference with an overclock.
