Intel Memory Types

I am using a Asus Z170 pro mobo along with intel i5 6600k. Looking at the processor specification at intel website, it says memory type DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V. Does this mean that if I buy a gskill z trident 3000 MHz it will be an overkill ?

That's the base speed for all DDR4 RAM. You need to check your mobo specs to see how high up it supports, not the CPU.

It says DDR4 3866(O.C.) Support. So 3000 MHz should be fine.
