I'm helping a friend build a new computer using some old parts, after assembling it, it seems that the motherboard (a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L) seems to have broken, but the processor (an Intel Core™ 2 Extreme QX9770) seems to still work fine. However, because the motherboard is somewhat old, I'm having trouble finding a new one for a reasonable price and was wondering if it would be possible if I bought a new motherboard to reattach the old processor. Would I need to purchase an older motherboard to support a Yorkfield chip or are most Intel motherboards backwards compatible with the Yorktown series?
