Intel or AMD CPU with GTX 970

Hello guys.
I'm looking for some decent tips about what CPU and MOBO should i get next to my GIGABYTE GTX 970 GPU.
Right now I have an ASRock 970 Extreme3 r2.0 MOBO and an FX 8320 CPU and I'm about to buy some new stuff for my PC. Also have a 650 W EVGA 80+ GOLD PSU.

What would work best at nearly every games? Ryzen or 7th gen Intel? (Looking for an I5) And a type of MOBO next to these 2 types of CPUs.
I'd like to ask what do you guys have and what works the best for you in terms of gaming.
I need personal experience, so i can be sure that it works.

given its age it will work with either a ryzen or intel CPU. intel does have the edge when it comes to gaming currently but not much so either a Ryzen or a core i5 will be fine.
