Intel or AMD for next upgrade build?

So for as long as I’ve been into PCs, I’ve always, ALWAYS used AMD CPUs. I’m fact, every PC in my household has an AMD CPU as of right now. I’m sure I’ve used computers with Intel CPUs but I’m pretty sure that was ever such a long time ago. When AMD released their Ryzen processors, I was instantly sold. I knew that’s what I wanted for my next upgrade. I’ve watched countless reviews on YouTube, read numerous articles, studied endless benchmarks, and now I’m stuck. You could say I’m an AMD fanboy but I feel like I’m more rooted in tradition than a blantant fanboy as I’m open to change. My issue is that I have no experience with Intel processors. None. If I do make the switch, I need to know what I’m getting into, what to look out for, and most importantly, what would suit my needs. I use my builds for a blend of gaming and workstations, mostly in music production on the workstation side but with more of a focus in gaming. I know that AMDs are excellent for rendering applications, video editing, content creation, etc. but I don’t do any of that. The most I do is music production which is CPU intensive but I only dabble in that here and there.

Here’s my next question. With the CPU competition back in full swing, do I wait for Intel to release their next gen of CPUs and architecture or am I pretty safe with their current lineup? Any help and tips are greatly appreciated.

I'd say wait and see what the reviews have to say about Intel's new processors. Then you make an educated guess about whether to move towards AMD's Ryzen platform or Intel's Z390/Z370 chipset with 9000 series processors.

In any case, now would be a good time to list all the apps you will want to tax the system with. We can have our answers sorted the next time we come around ;)
