I have a 2004 Dell 4600 series PC with a Pentium 4 processor @ 2.8 Ghz. can I upgrade to a faster processor and is it worth it?

Not worth doing anything to that system it is way to out of date any thing you put in it will not give much of a boost in performance. According to the tech docs it is running with DDR1 RAM and AGP graphics which is so far outdated that even the fastest processor and GPU that you could find for it will still be far too slow for modern software and games time for a new platform. If on a tight budget you can build an AMD system for as little as 300 if you do some bargain hunting.

Good Luck

+1 Saaiello.

With having nearly the same system (home built instead of pre-made ) i know how you system performs.

Can you upgrade it? Yes although not worth it. Fastest for the that computer can handle is 3.4GHz version of what you have. which will not be noticeable gain. (yes i've overclock my cpu to the speed and the difference is not noticeable).

It's best if you save the money and get a new system.
