I'm helping my friend look for a new processor for his Dell Optiplex 755. Any chance an Intel Pentium D 950 3.4 GHz Dual-Core Processor would work?

LethalIcon,

The list of CPU's compatible with the Optiplex 655 is on page 10 of the Dell specs document:

I'm not sure that Pentium D would work- in any event that series was the first Intel multiple core CPU and the performance is quite terrible- avoid it. On Passmark the 950 is ranked No. 1331 (performance score is 731) out of about 1700 CPU.s It was succeeded by the Core 2 Duo as used in the 755- up to 3GHz and the Core 2 Quad are quite good. The Quad core Q6600 2.4GHz (Rank is 541, performance 2983) is still has a lot of users- I have one in an HP M9624F that I use for music recording- works just fine.

Cheers,
