OK so there's some misinformation about this chip on lots of websites. I'm here to clear some things up.

1) There is LARGE OC headroom with any aftermarket cpu heatsink Hyper 212 or better. Many people have achieved more than 4 ghz on these coolers while maintaining a max of a 65C load.

2) G3258 CAN BE OC on a MSI H81M-P33. There's an article here on a quick 4 ghz oc on this board without stressing vrm.

3) G3258 handles up to a R9 270X. 280 and 280x or 770 and 780 are simply too much for this little contender.

4) Core voltage does not need an increase (According to Linus Sebastian) to reach 4ghz.

5) Stock cooler can be used to oc to 4.6ghz (Digital Storm says it reaches 42C idles and 75c loads) but it can be done.

6) 2 Cores is better than 2 cores with 2 more logical. Logical cores means more heat, lesser quality real cores and many other issues.

7) This chip is a LOW HEAT chip. It is designed for overclocking. 6.8ghz was achieved for a world oc. I can somewhat safely say that NO OTHER intel chip has hit this mark.

8) Inexpensive, great value oc chip. This little chip will handle the budget-midlevel gamer with a 270x or lower. 4.0ghz is safely gotten with a H81M-P33 which is a 43 dollar mobo. Simply impressive.

I just don't believe the amount of misinformation on this site. This chip deserves a fighting chance and defeats the Athlon 750k and the i3-4130 with a 4,0ghz oc.

Have intel paid the money into your account yet? 😉

I don't think intel need your help at the moment my friend. They are doing just fine in the money making department. If anything, you should be fanboying for poor old AMD, who really do need the money!

While I think this is a nice little toy cpu, same as the athlon, I couldn't recommend it to anyone that wants a single gaming rig that will last them 3/4 years without any performance issues. Fx 6300 is my rock bottom entry, with the latest i5 being the preferred entry level gaming cpu to cover bases. Anything below these two and you are asking for multithreaded hell in the near future, along with a big lack of cache to boot.
