I am looking to buy the G3258 for a budget gaming build. My GPU is MSI R7 260X 2GB OC.
Is this a good CPU and GPU combination? Also is it necessary to overclock this CPU for gaming at 1280 X 1024 resolution? When I checked game-debate, my PC couldn't run Far Cry 4 because of the CPU.
Please help.

You wont burn the processor or cause damage as long as you educate yourself on how to overclock.

No need to overclock the processor,it will decrease your processor's life...................CPU will bottleneck the GPU.......either go for i3 or i5,they have got new instruction set better than G3258 to handle today's GPU architecture for supporting games............

The 3258 is perfect for this build. Overclocking the 3258 is a must. Buying an old generation processor like the i3 3225 is a waste of money because the socket is dead.

The new Pentium is lacking AVX, which games dont use these instructions but has pcie 3.0 and can be overclocked.

Also game debates website is useless.

I'm not looking to overclock the processor, I fear it might burn it and it isn't something that cheap that I can replace often. So I shouldn't buy the processor if not overclocking it? All I'm left now with is the 4th gen i3 or something like that!!

But u said u don't need i3 haswell processors........

I said I'm left with the haswell, I'm not buying it 😀
I'll look for something else or buy the G3258 for now and not overclock it and upgrade it some time after.
