Hello,
I have an old PC that is unused which features the said processor at 2.5ghz. I was wondering if it would be good enough to run upcoming games like just cause 3 and new releases such as GTA 5 and Metal Gear Solid 5, if i added a suitable graphics card.
Obviously this would be cheaper for me as I would use the PC in place of a console under the TV and wouldnt have to include a CPU and motherboard in my parts cost.
So my question-would this processor be viable for such things and what graphics card would you recommend?

I am not bothered about maximum settings-just medium/high on a 1080p TV.

Cheers

well you already have the PC so it will never hurt buying a Graphic card and enjoy it until you buy a new PC.

dont worry about people saying "bottleneck"

get the graphics card you want , and later on move it to the new PC.

if you are low on budget I would recommend GTX 750 Ti for your PC

and if you can pay , get GTX 970 <---- highly recommended.

Also if you will need 4G of RAM minimum .

tell me more about your old machine I need to know :

1- Power supply WATT/AMP on 12V , look at the table on it.
2- Amount of Memory
3- the case used ( low profile or normal height case)

This is the PC in question however i doubt the PSU is good enough for the beefier cards of today but i could just buy a new one-if it will fit the case. I will take a closer look at the PSU now.

Edit: Seems its 300w :/ probably no spare pin connectors anyway

dont worry about the power supply it is easy to replace.

I need to know your budget for this ...

also how much RAM do you have ? 2G or 4G ?

and is this the machine ?

Yes that is the machine. The amount of RAM is 4gb. As for budget i'd hope about £150, preferably nearer to £100 as i dont mind buying used.

Thank you for helping me

Edit: So do you think the gtx 750ti would be suitable for my needs? Is there anything better that still wouldnt require a connector? What wattage PSU do you think I should get if I wanted powerful card requiring pin connectors?

Edit 2: just checked the price of the 750ti, may need to increase budget

Hello , for 150 pounds , your options are like this :

1- GTX 750 ti only .. around 110 pounds

2- 430-550 watts power supply and GTX 950 new not used , around 130-150 pounds

3- 550 Watts power supply and a used GTX 970 around 160-180 pounds if lucky to find cheap used GTX 770

any ways , this is a good power supply for you :

the 550watts power :

at Lambda tek : http://www.lambda-tek.com/XFX-P1-550S-GREN~sh/B1978298&origin=skinflint7.8

at Aria PC : http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/Non-Modular+650W+or+less/XFX+Core+System+Builder+550+Watt+80%2B+Bronze+ATX+Power+Supply+?productId=63631&source=skinflint

this is a very good powersupply that gives 44A on 12V and comes with 5 years warranty.

The 430 watts power : same series 10 pounds cheaper

I recommend to go for the 550 for the future use.

now comes the VGA cards :

the GTX 770 the best thing to get used , you need to look in Ebay for the best deal , it mite take time ,

here are examples :

1- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-970-G1-Gaming-Graphics-Card-4GB-GTX970-/111764943969?hash=item1a05b5b461

2- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-970-GTX-4GB-White-Graphics-Card-1-month-old-with-warranty-/141767302971?hash=item2101fd5f3b

if you are lucky in ebay you can buy GTX 970 for 120-150 pounds used.

also can look for GTX 770 used.

now if you dont want used , then the GTX 950 , get it from the same store you will buy the power supply from

Lambda or Aria PC .. so you dont have to pay 2x shipping costs.

GTX 950 at Aria PC :

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/NVIDIA+GeForce/GeForce+GTX+950/?x=12&p_order=price_asc&p=cF9zdHlsZT0mcF9wcm9kdWN0c1BlclBhZ2U9Jg==

there are 2 kinds of GTX 950 , short ones with 1 fan , and longer ones with 2 fans.

I want you to get a ruler and measure inside your dell the max length of VGA card you can install and compare it to the length of the card you want to buy . read the specs about the length of the cards in the site. the short will fit 100% the long not sure.

tell me what you think so we complete it together,

I reckon after a rough measurement with a ruler there is about 23/24cm of space for a video card in the case. I will now consider the options you proposed. Your help so far is much appreciated

So what do you want to do ?

change power and get GTX 950 new ?
or
change power and get GTX 970/770 used ?
or
keep it as is and get GTX 750 ti ?

Would a power upgrade and buying a new gtx 960 be a good option?

OFC but you said 150 pounds ... I was keeping in mind your small budget.

Ah yes of course, what are the AMD rival cards to the ones you suggested? It has been a while since i have looked at the various ranges.
