Unfortunately, it does not work that way...
Facing some bad press and products, Ford decided to halt production of the Ford Tarus, and completely redesign it. But they never actually 'stopped' production, they just changed it enough to where the bean counters on the top decided that it needed a re-branding. They renamed the Ford Taurus: The Ford Five Hundred... The newly redesigned Taurus with it's new name, met with GREAT reviews. But sales suffered. Customers were unfamiliar with this brand, and stayed away from it.
After sales sagged so far that they were actually considering shutting down the Five Hundred line, they decided to try and boost sales by... Re-Re-branding the Five Hundred. They gave the car it's old name back. Sales IMMEDIATELY spiked. The explanation goes something like: Better to go with the devil you know, than the devil you don't... The average Joe knew what a Taurus was supposed to be. But they had no idea what a Five Hundred was...
So to with the Pentium and Celeron brands. People are comfortable with those brands and have certain expectations attached to them. Therefore, these brands will stick around for a LONG LONG time...
