The "as per Intel' is the key statement here. Intel has lied before, so I wouldn't be surprised if these microcode patches don't actually solve the problem, but rather delay it. For example, CPU that might have broken in 3 months of specific use, could now last 12 months with the new microcode.

HP has been good about updating their bios by running the HP update app. It has updated the bios a number of times on my parents PCs.
