Hi, I am planning to build a RAID 0 array with 2 hard drives (in the mail) and am wondering whether to put it on the Intel RST ports or the 3rd party Marvell or Jmicron ports. Mainly the question is whether an Intel array could be ported to a new board in the future, probably Z87 or H87. Currently I am using an x58 board. My thought was with Marvell I could get an add-in card later with the same chip as is on the current board. If the Intel RST is incompatible.

I can't find anything on the RST version for these newer boards. Is it the same Intel RST?

Solution
You can upgrade an Intel raid that was created on an old chipset to the latest version. Using Marvell or Jmicron will force you to buy a new motherboard that includes the same controller.
