Question Intel SSDPE2KX040T801 DC P4510 4TB DRIVE USE

Greetings! I have a couple of the Intel SSDPE2KX040T801 DC P4510 4TB drives. I am having a heck of a time finding a connector and adapter to use in my PC. I believe I need the PCI-E 3.0 x4 Lane Host Adapter M.2 NGFF M Key SSD to U.2 U2 Kit SFF-8639 with Cable kit.

Just seeing what you forum members think. Is this a good option, or is there something else I should use or need?

It came in either M.2 form or 2.5" with a U.2 connector.

It (adapter) might work for you depending on what your motherbd has available or not.

Since you didn't provide a link to the kit, we can't say for sure.

The item I described IS the kit.

And the drive mentioned IS the part number, SSD 2.5" form factor with U2 connector.
But I think it is good to go. Kit plugs into a open PCIE slot (which I have) and then connects through an M.2 adapter through a U2 adapter cable.

I just want a second opinion. I usually use these drives for entrprise builds in a storage array. Used in a carrier and plugs into a backplane. I am adapting these for a desktop server use.

It should work but may not be bootable or run at full speed, depending on if the notherboard supports pcie booting and uses pcie3 or not.
Post up some benchmarks when you've got it all going for us!

Intel Core i7-3770K
32GB LL DDR3 1600 RAM
2x INTEL® SSD D3-S4510 960GB drives (NOT RAID. one for OS, one for fast storage)
1x HGST Ultrastar He10 | HUH721010ALE600| (10TB HE drive for mass long-term storage)
Nvidia 1070GTX.

A little bit older board, I know. But very functional and solid. Board has:

• 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (PCIE1: x16 mode)
• 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE2: x4 mode)
• 2 x PCI slots

Presumably, your 1070GTX GPU is in the PCIe 3.0 slot?
That would mean an adapter card for the NVMe drives would have to go in the PCIe 2.0 slot, reducing performance even further.

In addition, your motherboard only has 1x SATA III port capable of providing true SATA III performance.
The ASMedia ports, even though listed as "SATA III", operate quite a bit slower than the Intel port.
You may notice one of your Intel 960GB drives is a bit slower than the other.

PCI Express 2.0 x16 specs at 8GB/s. But I see what you are saying now. The SLOT is a full length 2.0 x16 size, but because the spec says "PCIE2: x4 mode", the slot only electrically runs at x4, so the best bandwidth will be at 2Gb/s. I guess I can still try it and find out the speeds it will do. The drive is rated for Sequential Read (up to) 3000 MB/s(3GB) and Sequential Write (up to) 2900 MB/s(2.9GB).

My boot drive is not on the ASMedia controller, so I am not real sure. It is not slow though. I have not speed tested the drives on the ASMedia.
Interesting. How can they say it is 3.0, 6.0Gb/s?

Thats the sata3 interfae speed; ie - how fast it can talk to the drive. Unfortunately, many motherbd manufacturers only 'wire' up a pciex1 connection to the chip which is what hinders it's ability to transfer data to/from the PCH (Northbridge)
