Intel USB 3.0 controller not detecting USB drives only

Hi,

Recently at office we purchased a Lenovo AIO s200z. The PC has Windows 7 Pro installed. It is a really cool PC for working, it runs everything fine. BUT it has this issue since day one:

The two USB 3.0 ports on the side of the AIO accept every device except for pendrives and external HDDs. Any device works fine on these ports, we even plug the included mouse and keyboards and they work ok but not the case for any pendrive or HDDs in external case, be it usb 2.0 or 3.0, they all go undetected alike.

The USB3.0 drivers are correctly installed and updated to the latest version, the controller works fine as described above. Even the usb pendrives and hdds work fine if we plug them in another computer. When we plug the drives to the usb 3.0 ports in the AIO nothing happens, no sound, no pop up, no nothing, they don't appear in device manager nor in disk management but as soon as we plug other kind of device it sparks to life instantly.
More interesting, we even plug the same drives that do not work, into the two usb ports in the back (which are usb 2.0) and the drives work right away!

After an entire day of battle against the ports I request your help with this issue. Do you guys have any clue what's going on?

Hey there, @TripleHeinz!

I suspect that there could be some issue with the USB ports on the side of your computer. Possibly not enough power supply, since both external drives and pendrives work fine when you plug them in the ports at the back of the PC. I suggest you consider using an externally powered USB hubs. Possibly configuring such a device in these ports will help you recognize all the external devices that you wish to connect and access from the PC.

However, since this computer was recently bought, you should also consider contacting the reseller's or the manufacturer's customer support for assistance. IF there's really something wrong with the USB ports on the side, you should be able to RMA or repair the failed component/hardware.

Thank you for your reply. It seems it is a software related issue, maybe related with security for thumbdrives because today I personally formatted the PC and installed everything from scratch. I installed the original drivers from Lenovo. The computer works great as usual and now it accepts external HDDs powered by the USB cable alone and they work perfectly now! But as for pendrives, they are the only devices that do not want to be recognized by the system. I can not install Windows 10 in this PC to make it work out of the box because we have special USB hardware and companion software that can only be executed in Windows 7.
