I need a quick update on the current situation regarding Intel vs AMD for a budget general-purpose machine with an iGPU.

People asking me to build a budget machine with good gaming performance has always been the bane of my existence. Usually, they first describe their usage as word processing, browsing and the like. Then they casually mention as an afterthought that their 10-year-old will also want to do some gaming. Budget is usually somewhere around the equivalent of US$400.

The last time I was reasonably informed about hardware, AMD was significantly ahead in iGPU performance.
Has the situation changed?
TIA.

Best IGPUs are for now in Ryzen 8000g series processors, bellow that Ryzen 5000G series. Neither of them have IGPU stronger than for instance Nvidia GTX1030/1050 dedicated GPUs but sufficient for low end gaming. At his age, I suppose that would be Roblox or something similar. CPU parts themselves are good enough for everything else. R5 5600g is cheaper now but on dead end platform. R5 8600x for instance maybe somewhat more expensive but on a platform ttat can be upgraded for nex few years. AMD is soon supposed to introduce APU processors for AM5 platform tha will have IGP worthy of mid range DGPUs of today, so ut could be a wery good and easy upgrade.

Thanks for the quick responses. Based on your replies and on my own quick search, I've tentatively chosen the Ryzen 5 8600G for the next build.

My specialty is electronics rather than computers but I keep getting requests for computer hardware for applications ranging from home office to gaming and professional video editing.
