To add to all this, CPU failure rates are like 0.5% or less. The chances of ever needing an extended warranty is slim to none. Short of overclocking the crap out of it and not cooling it properly it takes a whole lot to kill a CPU and it will be long obsolete before ever getting near the point of failure.

Extended warranties on most items are usually a waste of money, if they even existed for a CPU that would be an even bigger waste of money.

I am referring to the purchasable warranty that allows you to request an RMA and get sent a replacement CPU before you send your current CPU back, is that possible at anytime before your current warranty expires?

Obviously, the place to ask is Intel:

Advanced warranty replacement (AWR)
AWR is a premium warranty service available to eligible Intel® Technology Provider Program members.

AWR Terms: (in part)
  • This warranty is only available to eligible channel program members who purchase qualifying Intel® products sold through Intel® Authorized Distributors in their region.
  • We ship replacement products or spare parts to Intel Gold or Platinum partner program participants without waiting for the returned defective part. Registered partners aren’t eligible for AWR.
  • The AWR program is available 30 days after purchase. You should make any warranty replacement that is required inside 30 days of purchase through your Intel Authorized Distributor. If your distributor isn't available, contact Intel directly.
