bacause intel have lost out on the xbox contract. Will intel be loosing out in alot of turn over? I think intel lost the contract because of the same reason there loosing out on the x86 market. Simply they are not developing new arcitectures!!!

I wouldn't 'count them out' just because of that. No matter how we feel on this board, for the most part, pre-built systems still use intel processors. I think all of Dell's comps are intel boxes, and that alone is a huge market.

Intel make more than the P4 you know. They could survive completely pulling out of the home desktop market, if they wanted to.

Even so, Intel are a better known household name, because they advertise more. the vast majority of computer users have no idea what CPU is inside their computer, but if they bought one they'd want 'Intel Inside' because they saw in an advert that it would make their internet faster. Us enthusiasts who actually have the slightest idea about this stuff are a really small % of the market.

So yes, they might lose a little turnover, but I don't think they'll collapse overnight....

I dont think its a large chunk for intel like chipdeath said Intel is not only making processor for youre home. They are pretty big in flash and other sector. Sure the lost of the Xbox contract aint good but it certainly wont kill intel...

Dealing with the devil. nVidia lost their chipset contract because Microsoft wouldn't give them any breathing room to actually profit from it. Intel was likely selling the X-Box CPU for penies over cost.
