I'm looking to buy a new processor for streaming and saw that the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 would get better performance streaming than the i5-4670k. I know the i7-4770k is better than both but I don't have the money for that.

Yes, basically the best choice you can make.

It's essentially an i7 4770, with slightly lower clock speed and without an IGP which is disabled when using a dedicated video card anyway.

The hyperthreading will help for heavy multitasking like streaming.

If you can, dependent on where you live, you could instead get the newer 1231v3, which has a slight clock speed boost.

Would the e3-1246 v3 be compatible with this motherboard? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128714&cm_re=lga_1150-_-13-128-714-_-Product

If you are getting a Discrete Graphics card, it would be better to get the e3 1241v3, the differences being that it has no Integrated GPU (useless with a discrete GPU anyway) and is generally cheaper.

Unless you need the SLI/crossfire the z97 board wouldn't be needed since you can't overclock the Xeon anyway, but yes the Xeons are very good. If I had of known about them when building my pc I would of went with one instead of my i5. The intel's are already so strong per core that overclocking is largely just epeen.

What motherboard would you recommend? I'm trying to stay decently cheap, around $350-400 for both.

Suppose so, with it disabled there wont be much extra heat either...
