Intel Xeon E5-1630 V3

Anyone knows what makes this processor different that it is only sold in "tray" quantities and not in boxed versions? I can still order it, just not from as many vendors as a typical boxed processor

Also, there are apparently one or more Xeon processors in the current line-up that are specifically targeted towards workstations. I'm finding it difficult to figure out which ones those are and what attributes would make them suitable.

Thanks for any insight and advice.

I'm trying to understand the rationale for Intel making the chip. Why would they have this price differential if the chp isn't anything better?

Why would Puget Computers build workstations with these chips instead of with the Intel Core i7 chips?

And, for that matter, why does Apple build their workstations with these chips. There has to be differentiation and that's what I'm looking for.

Generally processors that come in Trays are quoting a given price per processor for the entire tray. This is done to show people looking to buy a lot of processors in that you can get a discount if you buy a tray rather than individual processors. This also saves on packaging etc, hence some of the discount is passed on.
