intel xeon x5450 75 c under load

Solution

It's an older cpu that starts to be damaged at 70c. Intel cpu's weren't allowed to get really hot until ivy bridge.
Safe temp.

What cooler are you using though? Sometimes a very simple and affordable upgrade can easily drop it 10c.....if you feel strongly about it. I'd look at that option only if you're routinely running at full load, and the fan volume is bothering you.

im making this for a friend its a upgraded hp with stock cooler i got a hyper tx3 evo spare here that i could use but he wants it as cheap as possible so if its safe i Think i stick with it, possibly adding a side fan could reduce the temps slightly? thanks

This processor is not supposed to go over 70c so I would recommend that hyper tx3.

Hp's coolers are only meant to be able to cool the cpu it came with (core 2 duo upgrade to core 2 quad means nice and toasty cpu). A side fan won't do much at all as the cooler can't handle the output of the cpu.

Most hp's from that time came either with a cooler master cooler or another weird brand. I'm currently waiting for the person who I needed to upgrade this pc from an e8400 to a q6700 to buy himself the new cooler(he doesn't want me to do it for some reason) and this cooler master was running the q6700 at around 70c which was way too hot no matter if it had good airflow so I was forced to buy myself the new one.

i tried chaning the heatsink but the backplate was glued on so couldnt do it, i found a pwm fan though and it got the temps down to around 65-70 i guess thats the best im gonna do if i cant find a lga 775 cooler that fits with the back plate with better cooling than this

Did a better google and intel recommends to not put it over 63c so yeah you are really running it on the edge. Sucks that you have that stupid hp problem with them gluing it on there.

Thanks for pointing out that it was tcase I googled more and it seems that as long as you don't go over 70-75 it should be fine. These xeons are sometimes really annoying to find the max temp about because they usually are run with a very good cooling system and that's why they use tcase instead of max core temp.
