I'm new to these forums and was wondering if its a good CPU to get for mostly gaming. I can get it for 80 euro and if its good to get what mobo should I get to OC it to 4 GHz? Thx.
x5650 is a 95w CPU the W3680 is 135w Skylake is a 915w CPU and supports DDR4 and PCIX 3.0 As far as gaming goes, Im not seeing any difference at all in frame rates with every other components being equal.
I have one in a Asus ROG Rampage board clocking in a 4.4 Ghz watercooled. This CPU really is amazing for its age, Im breaking 1000 in Cinebench R15 and using it mostly for gaming with a GTX 980 SLI setup. The Rampage X58 board has 2 USB 3.0 connections, not sure about other boards.
W3680 has 1 QPI link so you couldnt run more than one chip on a multi CPU motherboard. It has a faster clock, but I doubt you would be able to get it much past 4.5 Ghz regardless. Also has a higher TDP so it will run hotter.
