I have a Xeon X5647 and an X5680. Currently I have the X5647 installed. I am considering upgrading to X5680 but I notice that although CPU Boss generally rates the X5680 better, the single core performance of the X5647 is better (probably due to more L3 cache). Also, the X5680 is about a year older than the X5657. Is changing to X5680 an upgrade?

Not sure where you saw the single thread being better as the x5680 is clocked higher and has a higher single thread:

You can't go wrong swapping to the x5680 so go for it. :)

Thanks, looks good to me. Not sure about the GeekBench 3 (Single Core) stat in the original CPU Boss link I posted. But, overall, looks like X5680 is better.
