Intell Price Cuts

Fry's still has q6600 chips for $899. I think this price cut may take a while to trickle down.

That is because Fry's is horrible at pricing. They like to charge premiums, it is like Altex. They are very slow to drop prices.... especially since they are one of the few places you can actually walk into a place and buy just a CPU. :?

Could be, I have a friend who lives near one of the brick-and-mortar stores. He just bought a P182 for $159; I can't seem to find them that cheap online so they can't be bad on all their items.

I don't know what this is about Intel's prices not dropping... They did on newegg as said before. Now we have two very good processors (E6600 and the X2 6000 64) in the non-ungodly price range. Thank god for price wars!

In Canada they have dropped very nicely at some sellers. I can get the Q6600 for C$788 at NCIX but it's still $1062 at my favourite local shop. Have a little patience, it will happen... 😛 😛 😛

Yeah the e4300 is till 135 and is still going to be 135 because it's the bottom end of the C2D chips. Usually the bottom end is where prices get cut last, since they profit more by volume and actually price. In turn though things like the X6800 profit more from their price.

Look at the other chips in the lineup though, they have ALL come down in price. The e6600 is looking pretty tasty at $235.

I have a system that I am going to buy this coming week, and it had the E6600 on it (my order is going through newegg) but they are out of stock now. Looks like I am spending a couple of extra $'s and getting the Q6600.

I want a processor that has at least 4mb of L2 cache.

I am planning on buying the Q6600 later anyways. If the E6600 pops back up by Wednesday of this week (4/25/07) then I will buy that. If not.... well then I am just going to get the quad. (i know that in a few months that the prices will be dropping and I know that you can get better performance in some games on a standard dual core, but the quads will be faster as time goes on and programs and games are developed for multi threading.)

Are you talking about the Antec P182?

That's the cheapest site I'd buy from on that list as of today. 😛 $9 shipping and it's yours for less than what you pay @ Fry's. Fry's doesn't have good online prices.

we've already got some nice price cuts here in aus. About $75 on the lower end core2's and upto like 200-300 on the extreme and quads.

Many online retailers have th cuts in place, chekc out MWave.com for one, newegg is just slightly lacking with the new CPU's, their E6600 was cut to $235... the cuts are here...

I'm comparing it to newegg's price of $193 after shipping. I don't trust many online etailers, and rarely stray from the big ones that have treated me right when it was RMA time. In many cases -- particularly when online -- you get what you pay for and if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Ok, this may not be breaking news for most of you but I just checked my wish list on newegg and the price for th Q6600 just dropped down to $559.00.

I really think that once again the heat is back onto AMD (not that it ever left... well since the conroe).

In my opinion it's all overrated, considering that Intel has the next TWO generations of CPU's they want to sell waiting in the wing. That is to say, they're already being manufactured I believe. My FX-60 will be holding me out for a year or more. 🙂 I can honestly say that an investment in any of the new breed, mid to lower end CPU's will do anyone justice for at least a couple of years.

I do agree with you jonny... Most of the stuff is overrated and at this point most of the stuff just about all the same. This is going to my beast that wont have any upgrades done to it (other then a new video card from time to time) for the next 3 to 4 years. This is also not the best time to be buying a new system, then again it never is.

But seeing how this thread is about the Intel price drops, I am happy that I can get this quad core for not a massively unreasonable price now. I hope AMD can comeback from the bankers death grip with its Barcelona core so the price wars can continue.

Yeah, it's all about the competitive pricing. Still, if you have a good dual core system (pretty much any X2, Core2, or speedy P4 or PentD, you might stick with it for awhile. I think a lot of people are "upgrading" from systems with the likes of AMD's X2's to low end Core2Duo's and it's really not worth it. By the end of this year quad should be in the $300 range I heard...save your $700 and buy yourself something nice. Like a new PC or something. So much for processors...just not worth it!

True... everyone should ask the question: how much faster do I need? In other words, would it be worth it to go twice as fast (or twice the processing power)? 5 times as fast? 10 times as fast? Etc. For me, the answer was about 5x. If you're not doing really mathematically intensive stuff like rendering, video work, etc. it doesn't really add up in my mind. Then again, who am I to tell you how to spend you money :)
