Intel plans to release the first 45nm desktop CPU, the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 on November 11, according to sources at motherboard makers.

The quad-core CPU will offer a frequency of 3.0GHz with 1333MHz FSB and 12MB L2 cache. As is typical for products in the Extreme series, pricing for the CPU will be set at US$999 in 1000-unit tray quantities.

In an update to previous reports, three 45nm quad-core CPUs (Yorkfield) and another three 45nm dual-core CPUs (Wolfdale) for desktops will be launched in January next year, noted the sources.

The three quad-core CPUs will include the Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz, 12MB L2 cache), Q9450 (2.66GHz, 12MB) and Q9300 (2.5GHz, 6MB), with pricing expected at US$530, US$316 and US$266 in 1000-unit tray quantities, respectively.

The three dual-core CPUs will include the Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz, 6MB L2 cache), E8400 (3.0GHz) and E8200 (2.66GHz) priced at US$266, US$183 and US$163 in 1000-unit tray quantities, respectively. Plans also include a fourth dual-core CPU, the E8300 (2.83Ghz, 6MB), but pricing and availability have not yet been set.

All the 45nm desktop CPUs will support Intel Virtualization technology, Intel Trusted Execution technology, Intel Enhanced SpeedStep technology, Intel 64 technology and Execute Disable Bit.

Intel declined the opportunity to respond to this report saying it cannot comment on unannounced products.

Dude can't wait,,,,btw does anybody want to buy my q6600? lol

Where is that information from? Is it true? OMG that is wonderful stuff if true!

The question now is..... Buy Q6600 in Novmember for Crysis, or wait 2 lousy months for a much better and similarly priced peny quad!!!?

Choices!!!

Q9450 (2.66GHz, 12MB) for only $316...... Sounds like my kind of chip! Q6600 better drop like a rock and quick or I will be waiting =\

I was thinking of upgrading my gaming system in December. Should I wait till these new Quads come out? I was going to go with the E6850 but this new Q9300 at $266 looks good? This the Penryn's?

Yes but the QX9650 is a desktop version in Nov. Its just the highest priced model for those money bags early adopters plus it should be multiplier unlocked as most X versions are so a good test bed for OC'ing research. Only the slower models come 3 months later.

Yep. They should be available sometime in Q1 2008.

I'm hoping that Intel will release some Nehalem benchmarks in Q1 2008 before I decide to upgrade to Penryn.

Seeing as how I just put a Q6600 in my box, unless someone gives me a penryn cored proc, then I'll stay with it until the next generation comes out....it does everything I need it to do at very fast speeds - and frankly, these days, it's money best spent elsewhere....

Q9450 is the chip for me too, I cant wait. Hopefully it will be running at 3.2Ghz, a 20% OC isnt all that ambitious... 1:1 w/1600Mhz, the price/performance will be very nice

No it isn't... and this is looking like it may not be good for anyone. We all know what will happen if... well... AMD goes bye bye... dark ages...

Then comes the Middle Ages! Dunno how that fits though...Sorry had to say that

Anyways, my opinion on the Q6600 pricing is that it will not drop much lower. Why? Just look at the Pentium Ds! With their crappy performance, they should be nearly free, however it is still priced similarly with the Core2duos (Low end). Another scenario is that Intel will stop producing the Q6600 after the new chips come out, though I doubt that.

Have no doubts! Go get a Q6600 G0 and overclock to 3.6Ghz!

I'm just curious how much more these Penryn can overclock since they should be cooler than their predecessor. 4Ghz? On air? Boy, Amd better ready with their Phenom.

Better give the Pentium Ds another look. They are the same core as core 2 duos now. The old ones got discontiued. The E2180 can overclock to 3.6 very easy. When the E2180 is clocked to 3.6 it beats the stock E6850 and everthing below in benchmarks. Not to mention the 3.6 is on air and the chip cost 80-90 dollars VS 1000 for the E6850 lol. I'm going with a E2180 til the new quads come out.

E2180 has a 10x multiplier so you only need to juice the FSB to 360. 360x10=3600. Theres still room if you have watercooling. At 360 FSB your DDR2800 ram runs at 720.

I see a couple sources saying the fastest Intel desktop quad will be C2QXEE 3.2 GHz FSB 1600 12MB Socket LGA 775. Faud says, Nov 12, 2007. Other sources are saying end of year.

OK, now here is a question. Is there going to be enough performance gain from these new cpus for me to upgrade to them from my current q6600 oced to 3.2Ghz? I am mainly looking at the Q9450.
