Hello all,

I have the intention to upgrade my CPU processor, but i cannot just do that because the mobo i currently use Fatality Killer Z87 doesnt support beyond the 4xxx series processor

That means, if I do want to upgrade, i have to buy the processor AND a new mobo.

I am not fussed with which series it is but I really prefer Intel over AMD however I'm unsure how to pick a mobo or what I should pick too.

I do game on this rig most of the times, I also do record videos of my game play and export/render (usually just cut and export, with no fancy effects using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6) currently running on the following:

Mobo: Asrock, Fatality z87 killer
Processor: Intel i7 4771
Ram: 16GB
GPU: 2x GTX 970
Monitor: 27inch 2560x1440

Understand that i7 is supposed to help with the speed of rendering of some sort. However, using this processor for about 4+ years now and i dont really feel that way..

Export a 5 minute video recorded in 60fps on 1440p res. usually takes about 5 minutes maybe 4mins at best? It kinda feels like the exporting is a 1:1 , render time : video time. I say these because im not sure if im using it right, am i missing a setting or what.

~ TLDR

I wanna upgrade CPU, currently using i7 4771. I also need help with picking a MOBO.
Need some advise on why exporting videos on my pc (60fps, 1440p) should i get another i7? or am i just doing it wrong?

Looking forward to the replies from this awesome community.!

If you're only doing a little bit of rendering I don't think you need an i7. Depending on your budget but I would opt for an i5, maybe one of the K series if you need some extra power. Anyway, if you're getting a non K CPU you'll want a H170 for Skylake or H270 for Kabylake (Maybe B250). For K CPUs you want a Z170 or Z270 motherboard. All of these boards use a 1151 CPU socket.

Now there are also B150 and H110 chipsets

Here's a link to a good comparison chart http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Intel-2015DT-skus-2.jpg

In my opinion, and i5 6500 or 6600 paired with a decent H170 motherboard will do you just fine (i.e. Gigabyte H170 Gaming 3)

Hmm ... well i don't know if i should upgrade it tho.. i know the problem is there, just unsure where it is from.

When I just formatted initially, i got the latest driver from nvidia, and i would be launching my game, to 30fps=.= when my settings aren't so. This has happened before prior to formatting my pc, my fix was to downgrade to an older gpu driver, so i did the same after i formatted.

That fixed the thing, but the intermittent freeze still happens maybe. . once every hour? or 2 hrs? i didnt take note but its not frequent.
