Interesting Article from Canada

I thought everyone might be interested in this article from the Today's
Toronto Star. I knew that they had some problems in support but did not
realize they had slipped behind Apple, IBM, and (gasp) Gateway. I must be a
lucky exception since I have always had pretty good luck with the few odd
times I have called. Notice where the new call centre is now located....a
bit of Canadian pride there eh?

You do have to register but it is free.

I like my Dell computer OK but their customer support is a nightmare. I
would hate to think how much money they wasted handling my simple benign
parts order. 7 calls and they still sent me the wrong item and they wound up
eating the cost of the part. The Indian people working the phones can't even
speak simple conversational English. Why someone would put them in something
as communication dependent as tech support just boggles the mind.

Because it costs (a lot) less to provide, and the current crop of
upper managers will have taken their golden parachutes and bailed out
long before the results of their decisions bring the company down into
the basement with the Compaqs of the worls, and everyone starts buying
Gateway again.
