So I noticed last night that when my PC was turned off, I heard some fans spinning so I checked and saw 2 of the 3 fans on my EVGA FTW3 3070 were spinning. I eventually figured out that when I had the USB cable plugged in for the USB port on my Corsair K70 MK2 keyboard, the GPU fans would spin. I unplugged the cable, and they stopped. The fans do not spin at idle when my PC is on with the pass through cable plugged in. So I did some more testing, I plugged in my old K68 Corsair keyboard and the pass through cable did not make the GPU fans spin when my PC was off. I plug everything into the USB ports on the motherboard, this issue is not present with the K70 keyboard plugged into the front. I did clear CMOS which didn't change anything. Is it some wiring goof with the K70 or is it something else? Also, no other fans spin with this issue, only the GPU fans. And it happens with all USB ports in the back.

Running Windows 10 build 19042.1466
Bios is the latest one

Specs:
i7 8700k
ASRock Z370 Gaming K6
16GB Corsair RAM 2666Mhz
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD
Seagate 2TB NVME
WD Blue 1TB Hard drive
EVGA FTW3 3070
Corsair RM750X 80+ Gold (202) Fully modular power supply

And it happens with all USB ports in the back.
back of what?

do you use Icue for the keyboard rgb? Have you checked you have newest firmware? I haven't noticed any new for my K70 Mk2 since i got it though

the controller chip for USB also controls GPU so its possibly a conflict of some kind.
Are you plugging both power connectors in for kb?
you only need one of them in USB 3 slots
the only time i tried to use my rear port on KB it didn't seem to work at all.

wonder if the problem happens in safe mode
  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear. I tried all USB ports on the motherboard and the issue was still present. Again it only happens when it's shut off, and it's not present with my other Corsair keyboard. When I turn my PC on and go into windows normally with the pass through cable plugged in, the fans don't spin, it's only when my PC is off. Also the normal power for the keyboard does not do this, it's only the pass through one. If i have both plugged in, the issue is present so I only plugged in the pass through cable and that's how I determined that was causing the issue. Software shouldn't affect the PC when it's shut down but i could be wrong, but i think it's the keyboard itself that's the issue unless icue is somehow doing some wonky <Mod Edit> when my PC is off.

okay, that is odd. I didn't notice the fact PC is off when it happens. Only software that could be involved is the BIOS

It does sound like a fault in the keyboard.

You might be able to disable power that the keyboard gets via the bios as its probably a setting in it.

Update, it's set to disabled, just checked. There is a fault in the keyboard somewhere because like i said, my old k68 does not have this issue. Not much i can do unless I inquire with Corsair themselves. I'm stuck with this keyboard since it's past the Amazon return window so I'll eventually just get a USB extension cable for my microphone and I'll never need to use the USB port on my keyboard ever again.

I have a 5 metre long Extension cable for my mouse, I also have one I could use on keyboard as well but its close enough to PC for me not to bother. I got those at a time before I got the keyboard

It is a strange problem . Might be a wiring problem

My USB port on back of kb still refuses to see anything in it with just 1 power cable attached. But if I plug in both, it sees it. I was always told I only needed both attached if its USB 2. Fairly sure front of case is attached to USB 3 headers on mb...

its funny, only use I have for the 2 front panel USB on PC is USB drives or the keyboard. So I choose, do I plug USB into case or keyboard, as really there isn't a massive distance to front of case either way. If i don't care if USB is near me, I use 1 cable fro kb and have USB in other, but, for some reason, I want the USB drive just a few feet closer, I plug both cables into PC and USB into KB...

sees where I went wrong

The original K70 didn't have pass through so there are instructions like https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/corsair-k70-rgb-usb-port.2591442/ saying you only need 1 cable unless you use USB 2, then you use 2.
But if I look in the booklet for the K70 RGB Mk 2 it says to use 1 cable if only using keyboard, but if you want to attach a USB in the passthough slot, you need to plug the seconds cable into PC.

Yeah but what doesnt make sense is that if i plug the cable into the front, the gpu fans dont spin. So i honestly dont know why the keyboard could have a problem, but like i said ill deal with it
