[SOLVED] Intermittent black screen (no sound) while gaming - how to fix?

Hey all,

New to the forums. Pretty ignorant when it comes to PC hardware so please be patient with me and ELI5

I recently picked up this desktop:

It's been working fine except for one detail: at random intervals my screen will go black for a few seconds, and I'll lose all sound.

The computer continues to receive my inputs, but the video/audio only comes back after the event. It seems to happen only when gaming, and more often with intensive games like FFXIV (which gives me the black screen once an hour on average) vs. indies like Tangledeep (which has only given me one in many hours of play).

I'm away from my computer right now but I will soon be home, and capable of responding in greater detail + troubleshooting.

Since the computer is new to you check to see if there are any windows updates that need to be installed. Right click on the windows icon, settings, update and security, check for updates, install if needed.
