Question Intermittent loss of WiFi with D-Link DIR-882 Router ?

Recently my WIFI has been dropping and it's driving me crazy. Ethernet connections remain stable from what i've witnessed
  • Router: D-Link DIR-882
    • Firmware: 1.3
There are repeated entries of the below to save scanning through everything:
  • ipsec_setup: ...Openswan IPsec stopped
  • Wan(eth3) Disconnect
  • mld: ignoring invalid MLD-message of type 143 from :: on 0
At the bottom of the log for wireless RA0 and RAI0 there are thousands of errors logged

Any help would be much appreciated

I would think it is not the errors on the wifi it would be more the interrupts maybe not sure what that means. I have not seen this before, didn't know the wifi chipset would tell you how many error packets there were. It did not drop the packets though so that likely means it was able to get them retransmitted ?

I suspect you have a few different issues not related directly to wifi. The wan and ipsec stuff look like the internet connection went down or the modem rebooted. All the MLD stuff I suspect is just junk messages. This is a protocol related to multicast which is seldom used and it is also only a IPv6 thing. Not sure why you have so much IPv6 stuff. In general it is best to disable IPv6 support unless you have a actual need for it. It seems to cause all kinds of strange issues.

In general other than maybe the errors on the interface the log does not show a wifi issue.

There is not much you can set on wifi anyway. Most the features are locked up inside the wifi chipset and you have extremely limited ability to change stuff. Pretty much you can set the wifi channels being used and things like SSID and passwords.

Wifi problems tend to be a result of interference in most cases. This is generally coming in from outside your house. I suspect it is pretty much try other radio channels. Maybe reduce the channel width even though that will drop your top transfer speed it will reduce the impact of interference many times.

If your router is not performing properly (freezing, automatically rebooting, disconnecting…etc.), this could be happening for a number of reasons.

Please check the following:
  1. Ensure the router is in a well ventilated area. If the router does not get adequate airflow, it could overheat.
  2. Ensure the firmware is up to date.
Firmware is the "brain" of the router, it is the programming that tells it how to work. D-Link will release new firmware versions when bugs are reported and fixed. Upgrading the firmware may correct issues you are experiencing.
