Hi to everyone at tom's hardware !
I recently built an AMD FX 8X @3.2 ghz running @4.ghz with 8GB ram and a Radeon HD 5770 1gb.
During certain games i experience a strange stutter and slow down which seems to last between 10 to 30 seconds.
The main games i notice it happening on are Crysis, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box, TDU 2 and Borderlands.
I have made many tweaks to my system including disabling catalyst A.I in AMD vision control center, running the card at stock clock frequencies and running games like crysis with cfg mods and direct x 9. Still the problem persists.... I have disabled all unnecessary background processes and done everything i can think of, checked the core temps etc which are all normal. I have tried lowering visual settings but nothing changes it still slows down, Counter Strike GO runs between 90 and 145 fps @1920x1080 with highest settings and uses quite an old engine but every now and then it slows down to around 15 fps !! and will stay that way for between 10 and 30 seconds.
I've been away from PC gaming for about 6 years and have read many posts saying games are not optimized etc, i hope this problem can be resolved and it is not the case that most PC games these days are poorly coded !
Games that i own that run fine on my system: Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, Mad Riders.
It really is a strange problem and I'm coming to the end of my tether, i can handle normal slow down you know say a 20 fps drop but this is strange the game will be blasting along nicely then all of a sudden choppy slow down and 30 secs later BANG ! back to over 70 fps and like i say there is no connection to visual quality or resolution used, it happens even if i lower res to 1024x768 and lowest settings and to be honest my machine should easily handle games like Crysis and Counter Strike GO.
If anyone has any similar experiences or can shed any light on this i would be greatly appreciative...I've heard it's a prob with AMD cards ? if so it'll be my last ATI card nothing annoys me more than awful slow down.
Anyway here's my specs........
AMD 3.2GHZ FX 8X running in Turbo mode 4.0 GHZ.
8GB Memory.
320 GB sata HD 7200RPM.
HIS Radeon HD 5770 1GB.
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Any more info just ask ! I will leave it in your capable hands !
