Internal DVD driveto USB external drive?

Hello
I have a an old thinkpad laptop with optical drive.My new laptop has USB 2/3ports but no optical drive.Is it possible to salvage my old internal dvd drive and convert it into aa external usb bases dvd drive?

Hi

If you Google usb enclosure for dvd drive

you will see a variety of options (ebay Amazon etc)
Check if your drive is SATA or ATA/PATA
and SATA if it uses a standard power SATA connector for slim DVD drives

I have seen Dell ATA DVD drives with converter board for SATA which might be too large for case

Even external slim line DVD drives are cheap nowdays
