Internal Error 2356 Cabs.w1.cab. when installing steam

I just purchased the retail version of Fallout New Vegas and when trying to install the game. When the Steam installer starts I get Internal Error 2356 Cabs.w1.cab. The file is not read only; and I am logged in as the administrator. How do I fix this problem so I can install my game.

It's from the supplied installer of steam on the disc, you are advised to skip the installation of steam from the disc. Though I did not encounter this when I installed my retail copy of Fallout New Vegas last month.

Use this link: http://cdn.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi

Install it and it'll update to the most recent components of Steam.
