Hello,

I am getting error codes 2503 and 2502 when I try to install some programs. I installed Windows 8 fine. I tried to install iTunes and had the issue, but was able to resolve that because I had an option to Run as Admin. I am trying to install LogMeIn, which does not give me an option to Run as Admin, and gives me these errors.

I have looked online and people with 7/Vista in previous years had the same issue. Their fixes revolved around making sure the time was correct, checking the Installer folder in C:'s permissions, and checking two registry keys and the permissions. I checked all those and everything looks correct, but the errors still pop up.

Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? Would reinstalling Windows 8 fix it? I'd rather not reinstall if I did not have to.

Thanks

Hi :)

I am amazed more people dont understand what I am about to say....

To get certain programs to work in 8 you NEED the 8 version of the software...which may or may not have been written yet....

All the best Brett :)

Run it in compatibility mode. When the error occurs a dialog box opens which asks to troubleshoot. Click on the troubleshoot option. Worked for me when I tried to install Python3.3 on windows 8 pro

Solution for internal error 2503/2502 on windows 8 as follows

1. Goto TaskManager > Details > Explorer.exe & click on End Task.
2. Now Click on File in Task Manager > type Explorer.exe ( here is the trick ) Check the box below shows as ( Create this task with administrative privileges.)
3. Now install / Unistall this should work 100%.

I had same errors when trying to uninstall: 2503- 2502.
Solution was: end task of explorer via task manager and run explorer "as administrator" .
Hereafter I could uninstall without error.
UAC was set to "never notify" - disabled....

You little beauty - thanks for that, simple and straight forward solution. I'd spent hours trawling the myriad of answers on the net, none of which were of any help whatsoever - then I found your simple 2 step solution and now I can uninstall the things I want to uninstall without any 2503 errors. Thanks Naresh.

I was able to get around this same error on Windows 8 by running as admin (right click the installer -> "run as administrator")

Finally found the solution to this 2503 and 2503 install error showing from several places. I had been working around the problem by doing the "Run as Administrator" manually when trying to install/uninstall programs (trickier when it's an .msi file). Trying to choose allow UAC prompt and trying with UAC turned off, it would still error.

The problem also showed itself with programs installed in non-trusted areas as well (clicking magnet links in a browser with utorrent as the registered client giving error of "uTorrent running but not responding"). It's a Windows 8 elevated UAC settings under:
Start Menu | Run | gpedit.msc
Computer/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options/User Account Control:
For me it was "User Account Control: Only elevate UIAccess applications that are installed in secure locations" that was causing problems. Disabled that and it would work.

Thanks it worked but why doesn't windows allows me to be an Admin as I'm the only account on this OS and I'm already an administrator (just typed under my username) ? having loads of problem cause of this, like can't access certain registries or even give myself permission to access them specially the internet explorer registry.

I have found that end task the explorer.exe and re-open with admin privilege to work but will reset if you reboot your computer. I found this solution when I had to install Microsoft Office and it worked perfectly.

Problem is in permissions on C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Somehow Administrators-Full Control (I'm member of Administrators group) is not enough.

Added permissions as <My User> - Change and thats it. Installer works as a charm.

Hope this will help somebody.
