Internal Hard Drive Write Protected

Hey guys,

I got a new internal hard drive for storage use. However, in disk management it shows as Unknown and Not Initiallized. When I do try to Initialize I get the error message "Virtual Disk manager Incorrect Function".

Now, I've been through the whole cmd-diskpart-list volume/list disk- select blablabala- attr disk clear readonly. It doesn't work. All I get is the message "Diskpart failed to clear disk attributes".

I've tried AOMEI Partition Assistant and couldn't do anything. Error 45 when I try to Initialize and none of the other options work or do anything to the disk.

Messsed around in the Registry, in the StorageDevicePolicies, set the value to 0. Nothing changes.

Tried using a bootable pen to install Windows on it to see if I could format it that way. The first time no Hard Drive was selectable, just nothing there. Then I changed the BIOS from RAID to AHCI; tried again. This time the Hard Drive appeared. Showing 0KB in size and so I couldn't do anything.

Is there any way to force the hard drive off the write protection mode it's on?

Or any software that will help?

Or any physical way to unlock it somehow?

Not sure why it's protected now. I tested it on another computer before and it was just a regular old drive ready to use.

It's just a machine, made by humans. It's not a god. So there must be a way.

If anyone can help out I'd be much appreciated. All the solutions I've seen online came down to the same. And there are more people facing my issues who are left with no answers.

WD Purple 4TB Sata Internal Hard Drive. Was working fine and then it got locked.

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

As I'm sure you're aware, drives can be password protected and their data is fully encrypted. While there are programs that ostensibly can remove the password so that the drive can be reused, all the data on the drive is lost and unrecoverable. Reckon your drive is one of those?

The data it would have in it wouldn't matter. However, as I said, I have used it prior to putting it on my computer. Saw it being formated and working with my very eyes in front of me before taking it.

Well, then it could be something else that's amiss; I just don't know. I do know there are commercial programs available that will "unlock" a HDD so that it can be used. But I haven't used one in many years so I can't recommend one in case you would be interested. Do a Google search and see if you can come up with something.

Unfortunately the one I have found can't do anything and I get the message "device cannot be accessed because it is smaller than 65535 sectors"

It shows up everywhere, even in Diskpart as size 0
