Internal HD - Bad blocks thru the roof (200,000+)

HI there

I Ran the Western Digtial HS scanning software on my second desktop which has been gitchy recently.

After 6 hours the test had identified 200,000+ bad blocks and hadn't progressed beyond 0%. So I cancelled the test at that point. Tried the same software on my main desktop and it ran the test fine in 4min.

Now the obvious thing is be that I need a new HD. I'm just asking as 200,000+ seems an enormous amount of bad blocks and I'm surprised its working at all. So it makes me wonder if there's anything else that could be the cause of the gitchyness which is causing a crazy false positive on the HD test?

thanks

The desktop only has one drive and i only tested it once. I tested the software on another pc to make sure it wasn't screwey.

I'm getting a new hard drive but out of general curiously i was wondering if 200,000+ bad blocks was odd
