Internal HDD causing slow boot times (windows 7)

Hi, I recently ran into a problem where my pc has had extremely slow boot times, often hanging on the windows starting logo. Boot times would take 5minutes or so. I narrowed it down to the fact that my 1tb hard drive that I use just for storage was causing this slow down. When unplugged, boot times went at the usual speed.
I also noticed when it was plugged in, I could no longer see the amount of space available in the hard drive when I was in My Computer, and attempting to interact with it via right or left clicking would result in explorer not responding. However, it seems the hard drive itself is detected when I checked the bios, and I made sure the boot order was correct as well.
Is my hard drive dead or is does anyone know a fix for this?

It might be possible that accessing the drive is causing the drive to fail(or is failing). You can try and use TestDisk to retrieve your data but from the way you've mentioned it, the drive is on it's way out.

it seems like the hdd has perished, i tried running testdisk but it ended up just blue screening my whole pc. thankfully the hdd is still under warranty so i'll try to get an RMA going.
