[SOLVED] Internal hdd problem

iMac 27” late 2012 high Sierra
Failed to start with internal HDD

Booted with OS on USB external disk
Ran disk utility first aid to check internal HDD
Results below:

volume “Macintosh HD”
Repairing file system.
Volume is already unmounted.

Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Checking extents overflow file.
Checking catalog file.
The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely.

Seems like you will need to replace the HDD.

That usually indicates a corrupt filesystem.
I have encountered that several times and in one instance it happened because the disk was failing.
I followed the steps on this link and was able to fix the issue.
In a couple of disk I had to run it 5-7 times to before the disks were repaired.

I found that this could happen when the system loses power, system goes to sleep with low battery, or after a major update.

Have you tried disc utility from the recovery module? That often will fix a disc when the local will not. Command-R.

boot in repair mode if you have time machine back ups, if not youll need to repair from a mojave online install, your mac will avoid bad sectors but if the drive is bad you will need to replace it
