First of all here is my configuration.

Product Name: GA-AB350M-HD3 (1.0)
BIOS Ver: F1
Brand: ASUS
Model: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
Operating System: Win 10 64-bit
Brand: Corsair
Memory Part No.: PC4-24000

I recently got this system assembled(by experts) and did the OS installation myself. I didn't have any internal optical drive that time. Since the case cannot accommodate it I bought this eSATA to SATA back panel adapter ( http://www.standard.com.au/product-detail/cables-connectors/inside-the-pc-laptop-802/hard-drive-cable/esata-cable-312,/gigabyte-external-esata-kit.aspx) and connected it to the two SATA ports on the motherboard

But the drive is not getting recognized. On checking BIOS I see the following settings

APU SATA Port 0 :- Not installed
APU SATA Port 1:- Not installed
APU SATA Port Enable is "Enabled"

I cant even select "APU SATA Port 0" or "APU SATA Port 1"

I even tried connecting the hard disk to the second port on the eSATA to SATA adapter

Sorry what is M.2 drive? All I have is an SSD and Seagate internal hard disk plus graphics card and a creative sound card.

I have edited my OP

M.2 is type of connection an SSD uses, but not all SSD are M.2 drives.

okay if there is a M.2 drive *assumption* the Sata connection 0 on the board will be blocked out (invalid to use)
in bios do you see your SSD and HDD ?

also eSata ports come in two types, powered and unpowered. which one does your gizmo provide? and which one does your external drive uses? does your external drive have its own power (ac) to plug in wall ?

Yes I can see SSD and HDD in bios

The drive has power from the powersuppy(through the power cable on the adapter connected to the cpu powersupplu) on CPU and its opening and closing.
