Just a few days ago, my 4TB WD Green HDD disappeared from This PC. After checking Disk Management and not finding it there I restarted the computer and checked the BIOS. The bios reads the drive fine, yet Win 10 does not. I have no clue as to how to fix this and MS support was no help either.

For the record:
Win 10 Pro
8 GB DDR3
Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB OS
Toshiba 7200 RPM 5 TB for games
Hitachi 5400 RPM 2 TB for Movies/Music
WD Green 4 TB drive for everything else

Alright, I thought I had this fixed. Apparently, this drive is just not compatible with Win 10 when used internally. It doesn't matter what SATA port I use, I've tried them all now, the drive seems to be disabled by Win 10 after a certain amount of time. If I use a USB or FireWire docking station it works fine. If I boot up Linux or DOS from a thumb drive, the hard drive works just fine. Same with running Win 7 on the same system. Obviously, this particular drive model is not compatible with Win 10. Why is it incompatible? Who knows, really. I'll just have to use it as an external USB drive.
Hey there, @MasterZoen!

I'd suggest you try swapping the SATA cable that is connecting the WD Green and also plugging it to another SATA port on the motherboard. It might be a case of insufficient power supply which would explain why the HDD is only recognized in BIOS. If you have access to another computer, try reading the HDD from there as well. I'd strongly recommend you backup your important data somewhere else as well before proceeding with the troubleshooting and tampering with your storage configuration.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

The drive works fine on other computers, and even works fine on this one using Win 7, I've tested that already. I'll check the cables, but it's strange that it worked for months and just now stopped a few months after I started using Win 10 and still works fine if I boot into Win 7. A friend told me that Win 10 initially didn't have support for PUIS drives like the WD Green but did after a big update, so I'm confused as to if that is the problem.

Edit: Something was wrong with the SATA port, although, only Win 10 actually had the issue with it. Strange how that works. Thanks for the solution!
