Internal Slot Loading Optical drive

I am currently using the Coolermaster Elite 360 case for a small Pc to go under my desk at work - and the case fits the bill perfectly, however I cannot find anyone that sells full size slot loading optical drives.

If you look at the case itself the floppy drive and external drive covers are mount on their side, so if you wanted to use the case as a sort of media centre affair it wouldnt be a problem. Using the case in the standard upright position the standard try loading optical drive would be tricky to use

What do you mean and why would you want a large unit? Can you provide a link to your specific case? I found several pictures, but none matched your description.

thats the case.... as you can see the external drive bays are vertical rather than horizontal.

I know a lot of mac's etc use slot loading drives, but they are all slim models and not full size 5.25 inch items

Any standard drive works in an horizontal or a vertical application; you don't need a slot drive. I might miss your point, but I just don't see why it's a problem.

I believe all standard drives have, as part of the drive tray, little ears that will hold the disc in the tray when the drive is mounted sideways.

I've never used one in this configuration but if you place a disc in the drive you will see the little ears will grab the edge if the disc.

They work fine. Most servers have vertical DVD drives and I never had an issue installing software.

slot loading would make it "idiot" proof when Im away and some other bod in the office uses my desk.

Obviously this is a notebook dvd drive in a 5.25" case with adapter but it is what it is

Sadly I remember seeing slot load 5.25" drives a few years ago.

I had one and it caused me more problems than any other drive. Kids inserted small objects in it and I had to take it apart several times. A standard drive is a better solution.
