I just built this computer and I'm pretty sure I have it hooked up correctly. I powered it up yesterday just to make sure it worked, turned it off and left for work (still plugged in). When I got home the internal speaker on the motherboard was making a buzzy noise kinda like a Geiger counter sound. I turned the PC on and the sound immediately stopped. I then proceeded to intall Vista and updates and had it on for several hours without any problem. I then shut it down and went to bed, i woke up early morning to check it and it had started to do it again although it sounded a little less loud this time. Again, powering on the system stopped it.

the speaker is built into the motherboard.

A friend suggested that there might be a bad grounding somewhere or a loose connection. He also suggested trying a UPS instead of the cheap power strip it's in now. Next time I reproduce it I might try wiggling some wires. My hope is that it's not a short or something serious.
