Hi,

I'm a little bit curious about Verizon's international roaming.

Based on the information from www.cdg.org , I find that there are quite a
few countries around the world which use 800Mhz CDMA 2000 as well. For
example, both Japan and Taiwan are supposed to have 800mhz CDMA 2000
network, but in my recent trips there, my LG VX4400 just kept 'searching for
services'.

Is that because I don't have something like 'international roaming'
activated on my account ? Or, is it always the case that I need to rent a
phone from them (http://internationaltraveler.verizonwireless.com/) in order
to do international roaming ? Frankly speaking, I feel carrying another
phone with me is kind of cumbersome.

The only roaming agreement I ever heard of was with a Korean company
(SK telecom maybe?) right before the world cup. But many posters then
said it didn't work.

Most likely, even if you get the phone to get a signal in TW or JP you
will get the "please pay by credit card" equivalent as no agreements
are set up.

I never used the international traveller program, but I understand it
a resell of vodaphone service, which has GSM roaming agreements alomst
everywhere in the world.
