Good morning,

yesterday afternoon, I was watching a YouTube video when the PC froze. Did a reboot and I had no internet access. Outlook, Spotify, Internet, nothing. This is my work PC, so I was a wee panicky. Reading various ideas through my mobile, I did numerous things, but it came back. I have no clue what worked, but it did. Just.

However, this is an odd issue. When I hover the mouse over the WLAN symbol in the task bar it says 'Unidentified Network...no internet access. Doing a ipconfig /all shows 'media disconnected' (see below). Yet, I do have internet access...obviously or I would no be writing this or listening to Spotify at present.

I use a USB, TP-Link WLAN. Below is also the Properties for my private network.

Ideas?

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Do you have VPN software installed? You have an Ethernet adapter with a 169.x.x.x IP which would cause the unidentified network error to come up. I'd contact your work IT people and have them check things, unless by "work PC" you mean it's your own and you use it for work. VPN software can cause issues with false "no network" errors or actually disconnection or slow connection. In that case you would need to install the latest software version, do driver updates on the computer or maybe change some settings in the network card, depends on the software and specific issue.

Must be some kind of display error. You seem to have multiple ethernet and wifi connections. The multiple wifi connections it not that uncommon when you connect in different locations.

Could be it is one of the ones that is not currently connected is being displayed . You also have to be careful to not confuse the ethernet and wifi. Almost all machines that are connected via wifi but have a ethernet port enabled will show it as diconnected since you are using the wifi.

You can see the wifi connection at the bottom that is actually active on your machine. I would not worry about it too much. If you have problems with some sites not working I would try to disable IPv6. IPv6 has lots of strange issues sometimes.......BUT it will not give your the interface disconnected problem.

Not my area of expertise but it sometimes happens when a firewall is blocking windows services(Probably DNS Client) to connect to the internet but allowing other application softwares to connect to the internet. (Happens to me when I use a third party firewall)
It usually changes to the Connected icon about a few mins later though.
take a look at the screenshot. I'm getting ~ 7mbps on speedtest even when windows is saying I am disconnected:
