We have a fibre optic cable tv and internet package and we have an issues getting internet to downstairs from the modem upstairs. I'll try and explain as best:

The fibre comes into the house upstairs, goes into this modem box, which then splits the signal into 4 cat5 cables which run throughout the house to 4 tv boxes for cable. The modem itself also has a wifi signal you can use for internet however it cant reach most of downstairs. I've tried pluggins the Cat5 from one of the TV boxes into our linksys router and we can get internet fine, however, if i connect the tv box to the router and the router to the modem upstairs, we get the internet, but no tv signal.

Im stuck trying to bypass this issue and ive even tried setting the router to either wireless bridge or wireless repeater and none wants to connect with the modem's built in wifi even though i made sure everything is exactly the same including the channel.

My last resort is to buy the "wifi booster" the company is trying to sell me every time i ask them.

Any idea on how i can work this out?

Your "modem box" appears to already be a router.

Can you provide make and model information for your modem and "tv boxes". What model is your Linksys router?

Do all TVs lose signal or just the TV with the "tv box" connected to the router connected to the modem?

Only one device (the modem or your Linksys router) can be providing IP addresses (probably via the "tv box") to the tv's and other network devices. Do those "tv boxes" have an ethernet cable coming in and some other cable (coax, HDMI) going out to the tv?

Hopefully it is just a configuration issue. Can you sketch out and post a simple diagram? Include all wired and wireless devices.

Hold off on the wifi booster for now. Need to understand the bigger picture first..... Thanks.

This new WIFI router you are plugging in MUST be in ACCESS POINT mode. There is a sticky that explains this on the WIRELESS forum if you don't know what am talking about.

just go buy a wifi extender

here is an example of one:

The modem offers a wi-fi signal and has 4 ethernet ports which connect to 4 TV boxes, but the wifi cant reach all of the household. the tv box is a huawei IP set-top Box, model: ec6108v8 (thats only 1 of the 4) and the router i want to use is a Linksys EA6350. The only tv that loses signal is the one i plug to the linksys router. This box also uses a coax going to the TV.

Here is the setup before:

Here is what i want:

TV Box D uses a coax out to the TV but all other boxes use HDMI out. and as i said only TV Box D, which i plug through the router, loses TV signal.

the problem may be your router may have to be somehow configured for the IPTV part.i have fiber service myself and i know with mine the IPTV service is sectioned or isolated from the internet service. if you are able to move all IPTV connections to the modem

First eliminate the possibility of some issue with TV Box D and its coax by swapping with another box, cable, and TV.

Then if I understand correctly you would configure your Linksys Router with Wifi as an Access Point (no DHCP functions, static IP, etc,) as suggested by jsmithpe.

The Linksys Router must be capable of being an Access Point or you will need to purchase such a router or a dedicated Access Point device.

Then connect the Access Point device with Cat5 cables as shown in your "what i want" diagram. Then TV Box D would be connected to one of the Linksys/Access Point LAN ports.

I figured as much, the router is configured as an AP with DHCP properties and a different ip set (main modem uses 192.168.100.1 and this one uses 10.0.0.1). is there a way to get it to send through the IPTV part of the connection?

the router is configured as an access point and theres no issue with the tv box D. the router is also set with DHCP and a different set of IP than the modem.

i know with my provider someone had modified firmware on an asus router to try to replace the provider supplied router and from what i remember they had to isolate a certain port on it for the IPTV service. i would do a google search to see if anyone using your provider tried to modify another router to replace the one your provider gave you, it may help you get information on your issue

ive done some googles, but i cant find anything on which port the IPTV would use or anything specific for our provider (Digicel Play). is there another way i can find this out?

This sentence caught my eye.....

"I figured as much, the router is configured as an AP with DHCP properties and a different ip set (main modem uses 192.168.100.1 and this one uses 10.0.0.1). is there a way to get it to send through the IPTV part of the connection?"

The router/Access Point needs to have an IP within the IP range of the main modem. You need to reconfigure the Access Point to be part of your network. Probably a static IP such as 192.168.100.2 versus the 10.0.0.1 assignment. DHCP should be disabled on the Linksys EA6350.

Review some of the Access Point tutorials and "how-to's" with regards to setting up the EA6350 as an Access Point. Verify all static IPs in your network (if any) and take a closer look at the allowable DHCP IP addressing range. Wired connectivity should be from a Modem LAN port to one of the EA6350's LAN ports. Subnet masks should be identical and no duplicate IPs.

TV Box D is simply not on your network as I understand the current configuration.

Well, i followed what you said and it worked! So far, the TV box is recieving signal, all channels work great. this really helped.

i got held up at one point though cause the linksys ea6350 doesn't have an "AP" mode, but looking on their website i found that it has "Bridge Mode" which does the same thing. So i set it to that, put in a set IP within the range of what the modem dishes out, plugged it in and the TV box is working quite fine.

Since this was a discussion and i cant pick a best answer, id like to thank everyone who's replied and offered their thoughts on how to solve my issue. It really was a big help.
