Internet connection issues after laptop repaired

My laptop's hard drive fried and I had it replaced by a shop. I just brought it home and I can't get it to connect to my router. It asks for a security key which I had written down before I had taken the laptop in to be fix but the key doesn't work now.
I figured that I would hook a Ethernet cable up to the laptop but it doesn't even acknowledge that there is a Ethernet cable plugged in.
If there is anyone that has a clue on how I could fix this or if it is something the shop has done or failed to do, I would love to know.

problem solved. It was a really stupid and simple problem.
